Barclays Expands Japan Team to Hedge Commodities (Update1)

The moves took effect this month, said Barclays Capital Japan Ltd., a Tokyo Commodity Exchange member since June 2007. The hirings are intended to boost sales of swaps and other products that help airlines, shipping companies and others shield profit from record-high energy costs.

SINGAPORE -- Asian currencies were steady to moderately stronger against a broadly weaker US dollar on Friday, led by the Singapore dollar and Chinese yuan. The Singapore dollar rose as far as 1.4026 per US dollar, up almost 0.7 percent from late Asian trade on Thursday to its strongest level since August 13.
